Jealous Devil charcoal.

Jealous Devil charcoal is a lump charcoal made from quebracho blanco, a dense hardwood sourced in Paraguay, and it is one of the charcoal brands we carry in our Sarasota showroom. The wood is kilned into extra-large chunks that light quickly, hold high heat for searing, and burn for hours once a smoker's vents are closed down.

Jealous Devil charcoal composition

The short answer is quebracho blanco, a hardwood grown in Paraguay and known locally as the axe-breaker tree for how dense it is. That density is the whole point of the brand: the wood carbonizes into large, heavy lumps that resist crumbling in the bag and keep burning long after a lighter charcoal has gone to ash. Jealous Devil charcoal is made from quebracho blanco hardwood sourced in Paraguay.

On the grill, that density shows up as heat. Jealous Devil Chunx charcoal burns over 1,100 degrees Fahrenheit and can exceed 1,170 degrees for searing, which is hot enough to put a real crust on a steak in under two minutes a side. Close the vents down for a low, slow cook and the same bag keeps a fire alive far longer than a briquette would: Jealous Devil Chunx charcoal is rated for more than 4 hours of open-air burn time and more than 20 hours in a smoker, so an overnight brisket does not need a midnight refuel.

We stock this charcoal because a lot of the smokers and kamados that come through our Sarasota showroom are built around long, steady cooks, and a fuel that holds temperature without constant tending fits how our customers actually use their equipment. Pinecraft Barbecue lists the Jealous Devil Chunx Lump Charcoal bag in its Sarasota catalog, and it pairs naturally with the Flame Boss controllers and Meadow Creek smokers we also carry. If you want to see or handle a bag before you order, ask us what you can come try next time you visit, or call ahead and we can set a bag aside for pickup.
